Many a times I think why Microsoft never inducted a feature which will make your Windows Laptop auto-lock whenever you close its lid. If you think of it, it’s really a basic feature, and this feature exists in Windows XP, but due to some unknown reason, is missing in Windows Vista and 7. Yes I know Win + L does the same, but when you can do it automatically, why press the key combination every time you want to lock your laptop.( I know I am LAZY!)
I searched the internet for many days to find softwares or tweaks that would enable such feature in my Windows 7 laptop. I stumbled upon many forums/blogs that said, if you changed your power setting called When I close the lid to Sleep you would achieve the same, but NO its not the same as closing your lid and finding your laptop in sleeping mode rather than locked. The above option made my computer to go to sleep each time I closed my lid, which I don’t intent to do. All I wanted was to make it get locked i.e ask for password every time I open my laptop’s lid.
Finally, I stumbled upon AK’s Blog, where he made a small program which did the same what I wanted, it worked in the background and whenever I closed my laptops lid it would automatically lock my laptop and when I open my lid I would see my logon screen. JUST PERFECT!
In the post at AK’s Blog, he mentioned that he won’t be further supporting the program and won’t be distributing it to anyone else, as he is busy (didn’t mention with what).
Still I managed to get my hands on that PRECIOUS program, and was able to write about it here.
The program has no Graphical User Interface (GUI), all it does is sit in your laptops background, using around 600kb of memory and locks your laptop whenever the lid is closed.
To get the software you can head over to AK’s Blog and leave a comment there or just leave a comment here and I’ll mail you the program.
